“Good night sweetie! Tomorrow is going to be a great Christmas.”
“It’s going to be the best one ever. Good night dad Good night mom.”
“Good night baby.” Elaine’s mom said as she shut the door.
Elaine woke to Speckles mooing loudly in the barn. She slipped off her covers and pulled her boots on from under her bed. As she walked down the hall toward the front door she grabbed her coat out of the closet. She walked out the door to see flames surrounding the barn. She was a little girl with a brave and big heart. She jumped bravely through the flames and ran into the barn. She found speckles at the end as she always was. She grabbed Speckles and her mom and ran out the other end of the barn. As she struggled to pull speckles through the flames her father ran out.
“Elaine!” He yelled as her mother stepped out on the front porch. Elaine’s father ran toward her. As he was running a gun shot off and her father fell to the ground.
“Daddy!” Elaine yelled as tears streamed down her face like a waterfall.
“Fredrick! Elaine! Come here, Come here! Her mom yelled. Tears were streaming down her face as well.
Three or four more gun shots went off. Then her mother fell and rolled down the porch.
“Mama! Don’t leave me! Stay here!” She yelled as she got speckles through the fire and her mom followed close behind. She ran up to her parents who were lying near each other. She wept with Speckles standing above her until day swallowed the night.
